Our 2018 season has been up in the air, as our former home at Grant’s Block is going to be under construction this summer. Cornish Associates has some exciting plans in store for that space – read more about that here.
While we will be unable to host the normal 17-week long movie season, we’re thrilled to announce we’ve found a way to keep the flame burning while we’re in transition to a more permanent home.
This summer, Movies on the Block will be back for just TWO very special screenings in a very special location. On June 21 and July 19 we’ll be screening two of our all-time favorites in the parking lot next to The Strand, located at 78 Fountain Street, between Mathewson Street and Clemence Street. (If you’re a Rhode Islander, you’ll know it as the back of the building where Coffee King used to be.)
Here are a few things to keep in mind before visiting:
- The screenings are weather dependent. Any moisture is bad for the health of our projector, so cancellations and rescheduled films will be announced on the Movies on the Block Facebook page and via the Indowncity Twitter feed.
- Much like a trip to the beach, we do not provide seating. Please come prepared with a blanket or beach chairs. Benches are limited and on a 'first come, first serve' basis.
- Come early - space is limited and fills up quickly. If you want primo seating, get some to-go from a downtown restaurant (@InDowncityPVD can help you out with some suggestions!). We will have a few food and drink options available on site, too.
- We do not recommend bringing pets. Whilst we love a friendly pup, this is a public event that often gets quite crowded. For the safety and comfort of all guests, we ask that you leave fido behind.
Bring your family, tell all your friends... Head down to Westminster, grab some food at a local restaurant or concessions and an ice cold beverage at the show. Watch some of your favorite films under the stars. Always free!
